One Page At a Time...

  Hello all,  I would like to welcome you all to my hypothetical classroom with my hypothetical students! Ha, did you think you wouldn’t receive any sarcastic tone in this blog post? Think again, I live for the way I can express myself in these posts, so sarcasm is strong here! Anyways, I am working with a group of juniors who have yet to take the American College Test. My group of students is currently in the November part of the year, ideally right before an election cycle, and are working to read George Orwell’s Animal Farm . This group of thirty students, ironically half male and half female, are working to understand key themes and elements evident in the text and how those themes may relate to a larger global picture. Possible summative assessments include personal collages or symbolism artwork. I have not thought it completely out yet, especially as this class does not exist, but I am looking for comments on which assessment might go well with these themes and texts. Fe...

 There is nothing more dull than a lecture. No matter what lecture you are thinking of, possibly a great hall with a single speaker or an angered parent having a go at you, there is nothing worse than being spoken at. The same must be said for the classroom. Removing the teacher from the focal point of the room while also giving life and fun to the lecture, more particularly how to do this, is something I want to learn more about.  What I know about play-based learning is a decent amount. I highly recommend reading "The Curious Classroom," by Harvey Daniels, as it has a lot of good Milwaukee based references on how to further inspire play learning that leads to inquiry. (  Book Information Here  ) Additionally, "How to Use Play for Learning" by Jessica Arrow is a good start into the topic of play based learning.  Hello folks! Hope you all are rockin' on in the post(ish) pandemic world! I know that like most of you, I too have spent a good amount of my quarantine time lost inside a good book. If I am honest, I wish that I could spend a lot of my time like that. Alas, my summer reading has come to an end! That being said, hello fall reading!  All joking aside, as if that were possible, my name is Alyssa Krieg and I am a Secondary English Education senior at UW- Milwaukee.
